When you are in the league of metal and rock, you need an instrument to play and a passion for creating your own music. You cannot become a true fan of any music unless you also practice it alongside listening to it. You can pick plenty of instruments to learn and master, but only the bravest are known to pick drum kits. Why the bravest? Because it takes the force of the universe to deal with neighbors complaining about noise when you have to practice your drum lessons every day. Once you feel you are ready, feel excited to get your own drum kit and your signature sticks. Starting with a decent drum kit is enough to make you better drummer overtime. You do not have to go for the most complex drum kit, but you also cannot settle for the cheapest one available in the market.

The five-piece drum kit

The most basic drum kit consists of a two-piece ‘kick and snare’ setup. The most complex ones can have eight or nine pieces. Cymbals and hi-hats are not counted as pieces in a drum kit. The most common drum kit that most drummers start with is a five-piece drum kit. It allows you to learn about all the necessary pieces without confusing you with too many things to play as a beginner. A five-piece drum kit consists of a kick drum, a snare drum, floor tom, two rack toms, and a floor tom. You will have to pay extra for cymbals and other accessories.

Make some space

Now that you have ordered your first drum kit, the question is, where will you keep it? A five-piece drum kit can take up a lot of space. You might need an extra room for it so that you can lock the door and practice every day. If not, you will need noise cancellation foams that you can use to cover your walls. It will absorb most of the noise and will not trouble your neighbors. You can also purchase an electronic drum kit today so you can listen to what you are playing in your headphones. Electronic drum kits are more compact and are easier to assemble.

Grow with the kit

You need to connect with your first drum kit, or you will soon lose interest in playing it. It will be in the corner of your room, catching dirt in no time if you cannot vibe with it. Save your money for a good enough drum kit, if not the most expensive. As you grow as a drummer, you can add new pieces to your kit or purchase a better quality set. It is your own progress in drumming that will count, not an expensive drum kit.

So you have never been to a metal concert, and this is the first time you will experience it? Being a metalhead, you need to know the traditions of a metal concert. Although they are not the hardcore regulations that everyone at the concert has to follow, it is something that makes you a part of the crowd that has come to enjoy some good metal music. These are some of the things that you need to know about metal concert traditions before going to your first ever metal concert.

Dress code

If you are a metalhead, you may already have enough clothes to fit the occasion. Girls may prefer to wear fishnet, lace, skirts, and boots to the concert, but they are not always the most comfortable clothes when the party is going to be wild. Did you know that wearing the band’s t-shirt to their concert was not acceptable until recently? You could wear any other band’s t-shirt but not of the ones that are performing. Dress comfortably and wear what can get you through the day easily without hurting your spine.

Whom to go with

Get introduced to a concert by going with someone who has already been to several concerts. You will learn how things usually work at a concert from the entry gates to the moshpits. The worst part of being in a metal concert is to be with friends who are not metalheads. No matter how hard they try to enjoy the songs, you will not get the same vibe from them as you would get from a real metalhead when it comes to headbanging.

What should you expect

The metal concerts are rocking most of the time. But, at times, some technical difficulties or bad weather can spoil things. These things should not discourage you from having a good time. No music concert can ever be perfect. What may be the most enjoyable concert for you could be the worst concert for somebody else. The point is, you do not have to expect anything from the concert. Make up your own mind to have a good time with your friends. It is a party that will go on how it is supposed to be. So just get in, and be a part of the moshpit.

Do not be a jerk

Metalheads sure are a bit mad at everything. Their nature allows them to be hardcore and not giving a shit about anything. But at the same time, it does not mean that they are mean trolls. They might be a bit unorthodox, but they have a personality that shows their good side. You want to be a part of this type of metalhead. Even while you are in a moshpit, do not get too cocky to look for trouble with others. For your own safety and for others, let everyone have a good time. You may end up making new connections and find your metalhead community at your first concert.

You can always modify your electric guitar. It may also not be the most budget-friendly decision as you can find other better guitars with the same money you invest in modifications.

When you play the guitar and do not feel good about it, it is not meant for you. One thing you need to learn as a metalhead is that you need to connect with your guitar. It may be the best guitar for someone else, but do not buy it if you do not get the vibe. We suggest that you go to a guitar store and try out a few guitars rather than purchasing an expensive guitar online. Check what your favorite guitar players are using for reference and try to find a budget-friendly version of that guitar.
